Get to know Pam and Debbie

How "It's All About the Dish" came to be...

It's a strange story but really cool to us. We went to same high school and had a lot of the same friends but never hung around together. Almost 33 years later our paths cross through Facebook. Some of those common friends we both had years ago actually brought us together without even knowing it!

On February 11, 2011 with the "click" of a mouse we instantly, discovered so many things that we have in common; it's really unbelievable karma. Now we have become "Sisters of Serendipity" because of it. It just kind of happened by accident, but it was meant to be, it's really crazy and we know it. We both love food, cooking, gardening, entertaining and traveling.

We posted some pictures of dishes we prepared on Facebook and in no time flat, the recipe requests started coming in! So many of our friends were telling us to do this so, we decided to start this blog, have some fun and give it a go! We hope this journey is just the beginning because...

"It's All About the Dish!

We started this blog for a couple of reasons. First, because we love to cook and eat. Second, we did it kind of out of necessity. Many of our friends have asked us for our recipes. For that, we are humbled and grateful. So, "It's all About the Dish" is born! But these words have multiple meanings. It's about what you prepare as a meal, but also how it's served. Many times the serving dish will make the meal so much better, even if it's the classic hotdog!

We all know the original paper plate was white. Someone thought that a colored plate or a decorated plate would be so much more fun and interesting. Now you have a hot dog on a red, white and blue plate on the 4th of July and it's heaven! On a recent trip to the flea market, we found over 30 variations of paper plates from square to round, to the shape of a T-shirt, some with matching napkins. So, maybe it's more than the dish, maybe it's the plate too! Who knows anymore what makes things work, but one thing for sure, presentation is the key! Anyway you look at it, the entire timeline of an appetizer, lunch, dinner or cocktail has a formula for success. But again, at the end it is the presentation. Would a martini be as good in a plastic cup at a BBQ? we think not! We want to look at all the different ways food can be prepared and also think about how it can be served.

In the 60's when we grew up, it was the basic meals. Mac and cheese, corned beef on toast, fake mashed potatoes from a box, even TV dinners and pot pies. But like everything, things change. Kids are given choices on what they want for dinner...that was unheard of in our world! Eat what's on the plate or don't eat! We can remember having breakfast for dinner! Who doesn't? Today we're more health conscious than ever before. Food processors want to pump out their product faster and have it have a longer shelf life, so they fill it with artificial coloring and other preservatives. We're not buying this idea - our grandmothers had it right. Make it yourself.

Gardening is a key example of how to get the most flavorful and healthy food right at home. Any meal with fresh produce from your garden, "dished up" will be the most healthy meal you can imagine.

The world is a trendy place to be. We liked all this cooking, gardening & entertaining stuff before it got trendy. So we want to get to a "dishy" place where we can all create, learn and share our ideas! Yes we know there are a bunch of food/recipe blogs out there, but we hope you will like ours. We will always "dish it" like it is. Bear with us as we start this new adventure and journey as it's a wild ride we're going on. There are two of us; Debbie & Pam. We live about 40 miles apart from each other and share this baby of ours. Thanks to technology we seem to be sitting right at the same table!

So hopefully our blog will bring new ideas for all of us. Don't be a stranger-there's a DISH on our table for you!
