I love to garden - anything in the dirt works! This morning was just a prefect morning so I went out and checked everything out and took some pictures to share. Enjoy
Fresh basil is an easy to grow and low maintenance herb. Last year we had 3 plants and that didn't seem to be enough. So this year we have 4!

We love radicchio on the grill in the summer

Our herb garden..I stuck some tomato plants in here this year. I think we have about 20 tomato plants, so they are all over. . Can't wait to start canning!  The asparagus is in its 8th year so its a big producer in the spring!


Our bay is about 4 feet tall and is growing like crazy. Guess she loves the rain!

More fresh lettuce. We love salads and just being able to get it right outside our door, it wonderful. Plus we know exactly what we're eating. No preservatives!!!

My garden has a story behind it. For years I asked my husband Jeff to make some raised beds for me. I researched about raised bed gardening a bit before we built the beds. Everything I read about this way of planting shows that it's an easy and efficient way to garden. Year after year it got put on the project list and never quite made it to the top. My husband travels for his job and is home mainly on the weekends. There's always so much to do and so little time! Last year we finally tackled the long awaited project. We built 3 boxes each are 16'x 4'. I added premium soil amended with mushroom compost. By the time I got some veggies planted it was a little late in the season and the crop was not bumper at all. This year I changed that and wanted to share a few pictures. I planted arugula, beans, beets, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cucumbers, eggplant, all kinds of peppers, tomatoes, zucchini and a bunch of different herbs! I love to play in the dirt, so far so good!

Traveling or just saving your herbs







Since we have a large herb garden, we frequently bring fresh herbs when we're headed someplace to cook!
Its very simple to keep them all fresh and happy for days. We just cut off what we need and place them in mason jars with about 2 inches of water. We set them in a cooler with a small amount of ice. Basil doesn't like to be cold, so either keep the basil separate or just keep their storage area at a moderate temperature.
